INTRODUCTION:
The Nigerian Institute of Professional Secretaries, an association of
Nigerian graduates with B.Sc., HND/ND/NCE etc, in Secretarial Administration
and Office Technology Management from the Polytechnics, Colleges of
Educations, the Universities and similar institutions, Established by
Act 1990, Registration Number RC390805.
Aims and Objectives for which the Institute is established are:
1. To promote the science and encourage the growth of Secretarial Administration,
Office Technology Management and business Education in Nigeria and also
to increase the knowledge relating to Secretarial and Business education
and promote their Dissemination.
2. To promote the establishment
and maintenance of standards of competence and conduct by those engaged
in and are interested to engage in Private Secretarial Profession and
to foster and maintain a high standard of Professionalism in the field
of Secretarial Administration.
3. To organize and hold
lectures, seminars, workshops, conferences, Luncheons, dinners and in-service
/Professional training and issue Certificate of Proficiency to secretaries.
4. To print and distribute
Newsletters, Bulletins, Magazines, Journals, Periodicals, etc., to members
and receive articles from members for Publication and distribution among
members of the Institute.
5. To participate in other
Secretarial/Office Technology activities that may be necessary to accomplish
the above objects.
BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP
Given the importance of Professionalism to an association of this nature,
one of the principal benefits of becoming NIPS member and the recognition
obtained for one’s high personal performance as well as the information
one would receive from the Institute’s journal about developments
concerning the professional in both Nigeria and around the word.
Our designatory Letters connote the acquisition by the holders of the
basic Professional standards lay down by the Institute.

and expand their knowledge and skills. NIPS creates the requisite avenues

gathering and service delivery NIPS Headquarters and its full-time personnel

and techniques, issuing journals, Newsletters and special reports to
keep members informed about emerging issues and trends in the profession.

maintains extensive information on members regarding their development
and skills. NIPS Members are usually cited for client selection because
of their high quality and credentials. From time to time, presenting
the Institute’s view points on specific issues with a bearing
on Secretarial administration, office technology management, new developments
in the profession, etc.
5. Publication: Various
publications are issued by the Institute from time to time, presenting
the Institute’s view points on specific issues with a bearing
on secretarial administration , office technology management, new developments
in the profession, etc.

to pass their professional examinations at first attempt by providing

CONSTITUTION:
The Constitution and By-Laws establishing NIPS empowers it to promote
and regulate the standards and practice of Secretarial Administration
among its members throughout Nigeria. Its members are made up of individual
and professional bodies in Secretarial Training, Administration and
practice.

Members and registered Students seeking employment or change of job
will find our Job Placement Unit very useful and should always get in
touch with the Secretariat for regular up-date on vacancies.
NIPS SECRETARIAL TRAINING CENTRES:
In-service training, Seminars/Workshops, etc, in Secretarial Administration/
Management are held at intervals at our Training Centre and other Accredited
Centre nationwide. Full details of such courses and events are circulated
to members and organizations well in advance. Kindly contact the Institute
for your special requirements.
THE INSTITUTE’S CODE OF PRACTICE AND MEMBERSHIP RULES:
The acceptance of the Institute’s Code of Practice and Rules is
mandatory on all members of the Institute and such acceptance of both
the Code of Practice and Rules is expressly warranted by the signing
of the Institute’s “Application for Membership Form”.
It is the duty of all members of the Institute to assist in the implementation
and the enforcement of the Code of Practice and Rules.
MEMBERSHIP OF THE INSTITUTE:
Membership is by application. Acceptable members would normally possess
a University Degree, HND/ND, or Diploma/Certificate in Secretarial Administration
from the Universities, Polytechnics, NIPS Professional Certificates
and other professional Institutions.
THE GRADES FOR MEMBERS ARE -
FELLOWS: (FIPS)
This grade is for highly experienced candidates and holders of B.Sc./HND
or its equivalent in Secretarial Administration who have worked for
a period of not less than fifteen (15) years and have been active members
on “MEMBERS GRADE” of the Institute for a period not less
than five (5) years. Senior Secretarial Lecturers in the Universities,
Polytechnics, Colleges of Education or Vocational/Technical Colleges,
etc, may also be considered for this grade after two (2) active years
on “Membership Grade” of the Institute.
MEMBER (MIPS)
A seasoned Secretarial Professional with a recognized reputation who
can demonstrate that he/she has served employers satisfactorily as a
Full time or part time ethical practitioner for uninterrupted period
of three (3) years. He/She would normally have a University Degree,
HND or any other equivalent professional qualification in Secretarial
Administration, acceptable to the Council of the Institute.
GRADUATE MEMBER (GMIPS)
This grade is for graduates in other disciplines who attend NIPS full-time
and part time Secretarial Training Centre and acquire the Advanced Secretarial
Certificate.
ASSOCIATES (AIPS):
The Associate Membership grade of the Institute is granted to any person
who qualifies as a Secretary. He/She would normally have ND/Diploma/
Certificate in Secretarial Administration, or its equivalent qualifications.
Graduates in other disciplines but with NIPS Secretarial Certificate
may also be considered for admission.
STUDENT MEMBERSHIP:
This is the lowest grade of membership of the Institute. To be admitted
to student Membership grade, the applicant must be attending full/part
time courses in Secretarial Studies in Commercial/Vocational/Technical
College, College of Education, Polytechnic or at the University.
HONORARY FELLOWS (CIPS)
Honorary Fellowship is conferred exceptionally by the Institute on individuals
in recognition of their achievements in their fields of specialization.
The award is open to Heads of State, Governors, Ministers, Commissioners,
Members of the National Assembly, Permanent Secretaries, Directors,
Professors, Head of Departments, Chairmen/Chief Executives of Companies
, Senior Managers in private and public Organizations, Members of the
Armed Forces and the Police, etc.
MEMBERSHIP QUALIFYING EXAMINATIONS
All prospective members will be required to sit for Membership Qualifying
examinations at the Institute approved Centres all over the states of
the Federation and Abuja on the date or dates to be published or notified
to the applicants.
MEMBERSHIP REGISTRATION FEES:

MEMBERSHIP INDUCTION CEREMONY FEE:
Will be stated in the Letter of Membership Admission.
