MEMBERSHIP OF THE INSTITUTE:
Membership is by application. Acceptable members would normally possess a University Degree, HND//SCII/ND, and Diploma/Certificate in Secretarial Administration, Computer Studies, and Office Technology Management from the Universities, Polytechnics and other professional Institutions.
THE GRADES FOR MEMBERSSHIP ARE -
HONORARY FELLOWS (CIPS)
Honorary Fellowship is conferred exceptionally by the Institute on individuals in recognition of their achievements in their fields of specialization. The award is open to Heads of State, Governors, Ministers, Commissioners, Members of the National Assembly, Permanent Secretaries Directors, Professors, Head of Departments, Chairmen/Chief Executives of Companies, Senior Managers in private and public Organizations, Members of the Armed Forces and the Police, etc.
FELLOWS (fips)
This grade is for highly experienced and holders of B.Sc./HND or its equivalent in Secretarial Administration who have worked for a period of not less than fifteen (15) years and have been an active member on “MEMBERSHIP GRADE” of the Institute for a period not less than ten (10) years to qualify for consideration.
Senior Secretarial Lecturers in the Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education or Vocational/Technical Colleges, etc., may also be considered for this grade after five (5) active years on “Membership Grade” of the Institute to qualify for consideration.
MEMBER (mips)
A seasoned Secretarial Professional with a recognized reputation who can demonstrate that he/she has served employers satisfactorily as a Full time or part time ethical practitioner for uninterrupted period of
three (3) years. He/She would normally have a University Degree, HND or any other equivalent professional qualification in Secretarial Administration/Office Technology Management, acceptable to the Council of the Institute.
ASSOCIATES (AIPS):
The Associate Membership grade of the Institute is granted to any person who qualified as a Secretary He/She would normally have ND/Diploma/SC IV/III Certificate, and attend eight (8) week-ends proficiency course and sit for Membership qualifying Examinations in Secretarial Administration.
Graduates in other disciplines but with Secretarial background may also be considered for admission but will also be required to attend eight weekends Office Orientation course and sit for the Membership Qualifying Examinations.
PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS will be required to take part in the Membership (on-line) Qualifying Examinations.
STUDENT MEMBERSHIP:
This is the lowest grade of membership of the Institute to be admitted to student membership grade, the applicant must be attending a full/part time courses in Secretarial Studies/Office Technology Management in Commercial/Vocational/Technical Colleges, Colleges of Education, Polytechnics or at the Universities.
